At St. Mary’s we offer a wide range of pastoral support for our pupils and their families.
Specially Trained Teaching Assistants
We have specially trained teaching assistants who work with small groups of pupils in our Nurture Room and other ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants) teaching assistants who work 1:1 or with small groups of children. Both interventions support pupils with particular emotional needs enabling them to more fully access the curriculum.
Two of our teaching assistants work on the playground and field at lunchtime to help children play, resolve conflict and be ready to learn when they return to the classroom. The school is committed to the principles of OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) which makes playtime better for every child.
Key Workers
Children sometimes find coming into school challenging for all sorts of reasons. Where this is the case, children are supported by a member of the pastoral support team who acts as their key person – offering support at different points during the day.
Activity Days
Through the pupil premium funding we pay for some of our children to attend the activity days which are run, on the school grounds, by Atlas Camps.
Medical Needs
Children with medical needs are supported through protocols or care plans to ensure their needs are met.
Multi-Agency Meetings & Other Professionals
Some of our families are supported through multi-agency meetings, referrals to other professionals for support and ‘team around the family’ meetings. Local agencies and professionals hold meetings for parents in school to support and advise parents on issues such as children’s mental health, healthy eating and hygiene.
Charity Support
We liaise with local charities including the Lions Club and Rotary Club who support the school by helping to fund and organise some of the school trips, funding the purchase of Lego and funding Christmas hampers for some of our families.
This year we asked parents to make a donation to Crisis at Christmas in lieu of Christmas gifts for the teachers and staff.

Well done to all of the children who represented St Mary's in the large school finals.
St Mary's School, Tetbury, values the contribution that every child can make and is supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress. The school seeks to raise the achievement, remove barriers to learning and increase physical and curricular access to all. All children and young people with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) are valued, respected and considered equal members of the school. As such, provision for pupils with SEND is a matter for the school as a whole and is described in the documents below.
