Life Skills at the SkillZONE

This week Year 5 went to the SkillZONE in Gloucester. It is a new facility which helps teach children how to react to certain dangerous and unsafe situations.

We were very fortunate, in that the places for the children were funded by Gloucestershire County Council.

When they entered the SkillZONE, the children were amazed to see a double decker bus, a people carrier, a train carriage and a three bedroom house all within the building.

During their visit, the children looked at dangers in the home, road safety and keeping safe when out and about (which involved scenarios in a park and down a dark alley!) They also spent time thinking about water safety and how to stay safe on the internet.

It was a very useful morning which highlighted to the children dangers in many everyday situations and, more importantly, how they should deal with these so that they can stay safe. The children were all very enthusiastic and well-behaved. They were a credit to St Mary's!
