Perfect Poets
On Friday afternoon, four talented poets from year 6 went to Ilsom House Residential and Nursing Home to read poems to the residents.
The children were the four winners in a competition for Granparents Day, which was 4th October. The task was to create a poem about an older relative or person in the children's lives.
The winners spent an hour with the residents who had judged their poems. They read their work and received certificates and book vouchers.
Here are the winning poems:
Highly Commended: My Grandma
My grandma is cool,
My grandma is awesome,
My grandma brings tears to my eyes,
My grandma spoils me,
My grandma is the best person in the world.

Third Place: Granny
You're happy, caring, loving and kind,
You keep me safe all the time,
You have short grey hair and dark blue eyes,
You also make such good pies.
You wear glasses, earrings,
And necklaces too,
And your dark blue eyes shine,
In the light of the moon.

Second Place: My Ancient Grandpa
Can you be any kinder?
And can you be any nicer?
Rotten food is never in your house.
In your house, it is magic.
Never bored because of your unbelievable kindness.
Going home is never as comfortable as being at yours.
Grandpa you never shout
"Rumbling tummy? Open the spout"
Amazing house with a smiling garden.
Never bored at yours.
Do you have to do this much work?
Perfect eyes, glimmering like crystals.
Are you enjoying your last years? I hope so.

First Place: My Grandparents are Great!
My grandparents are great!
They're like my best mates!
They harass me with hugs and kisses,
Even though a lot of them are misses!
They love me to the core,
Even when I am naughty, they might even love me more!
When I leave,
They conceive,
Me in a great hug,
And persuade my mum to let me stay,
So I can play!
And grandparents even though you do not have much dough,
I still love you so.
