'Ello, 'ello, 'ello...

As part of our 'Crime and Punishment' topic, Year 5/6 enjoyed an informative visit to the Police Museum in Tetbury yesterday.

Each class had an hour in the museum finding out about the Gloucestershire police force and when it was first founded. They looked around the displays of uniforms, handcuffs (the largest collection in the UK) and police bikes. Some even took the opportunity to dress up in a prisoner's uniform. They also saw how the Magistrates Court upstairs was used and some were even 'lucky' enough to be shut in one of the cells downstairs!

During their time at the museum, the children completed a quiz which had been complied by John Silvester, Honorary Curator at the museum, and the team of volunteers he works with. There are other quizzes available for the children to complete should they wish to return to the museum in the future.

Special thanks goes to Mr. Silvester, who organised our time at the museum and spent time with the children helping them understand aspects of the displays. The museum is run entirely by volunteers like John and is free to enter (although donations are greatly appreciated). Please go along and support this excellent resource. Your children will now be able to tell you all about the exhibits!
