Chucks Away!

Amongst all of the exercise, healthy eating and mindfulness exercises in the first half of Wellbeing Week, year 5 managed to find the time to take part in a STEMworks challenge.

This year, for the first time, STEMworks (who are regular visitors to St Mary's) are working with the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust Enterprises to offer year 5 children in the area the opportunity to compete in a Primary Engineering Challenge at the Royal Air Tattoo at Fairford in July. This is a fantastic opportunity and it will allow for two year 5 children to attend the Air Tattoo for free to compete against teams of children from across the Cotswolds.

During their session this week, the children started to create vehicles which must be propelled over a 5 metre course in the quickest time possible. There are strict rules about how these vehicles can be propelled using only balloons and/or propellers attached to a motor. The vehicles also need to conform to strict dimensions.

Following on from their half day working in pairs and with the STEMworks instructors, we will have more time in June to investigate the best way to make the vehicles move quickly over the 5 metre distance. Towards the end of June, we will have a series of races to determine which pair will represent St Mary's at the Air Tattoo.
