Morfa Bay

We started the new school year with the Year 6 week-long residential trip to Morfa Bay in Wales where the children experienced new challenges through a range of outward bound activities including absailing, muddy assault course, surfing and much much more.

Swimming

Our Year 3 pupils are developing their swimming skills through weekly swimming lessons at Westonbirt pool.

We are extremely proud of our school and our pupils and believe that by wearing school uniform children develop a sense of pride of and belonging to their school, as well as being easily recognisable as St. Mary's pupils. We respectfully ask for the co-operation of parents to ensure that pupils are suitably dressed and thus represent the school and themselves appropriately.

The school specific elements of our uniform can be ordered via the Michael Hope website. To find our school shop please go to 'School Shops' and look for our school logo.

Non-school specific items such as the white shirts, grey trousers, skirts, pinafore dresses, hair accessories, tights etc. can be purchased from a wide range of high street retailers and supermarkets.

Our school uniform is as follows:

Winter Uniformwinter uniform

  • Grey trousers, skirt, shorts or pinafore dress
  • White shirt/blouse (long or short sleeves) (Year 1 to 6 only)
  • School tie (Year 1 to 6 only)
  • Light blue school polo shirt (Reception children only)
  • Navy blue school jumper/cardigan
  • Grey or white socks or grey tights.
  • Black sensible shoes (no boots or trainers)

There is the choice of either a knitted or a sweater style jumper/cardigan.

We encourage children in Key Stage 2 (Years 3 – 6) to have a proper tie as they will need to learn to tie them for secondary school. Children in Years 1 and 2 might be happier with the elasticated version.

Summer Uniform

  • Grey trousers, skirt, pinafore dress or shorts
  • Blue and white checked dress
  • Light blue school polo shirt
  • Navy blue school jumper/cardigan
  • Grey/white socks
  • Black sensible shoes/sandals.

Bags

Children in Reception (EYFS) and KS1 need a St Mary's bookbag which is available on the Michael Hope website.

From Year 3 upwards children can bring a backpack to school. These can be purchased from a range of highstreet shops or a logo'd one can be purchased from Michael Hope.

All children should bring their PE kit into school in a drawstring bag.  Again these are available via Michael Hope or from sports shops.

PE KitPE Hoodie

  • Plain navy blue shorts/skorts
  • White T-Shirt (version with school logo optional)
  • White socks
  • Plimsolls/trainers/football boots as required.
  • Plain navy blue sweatshirt/hoody (version with
    school logo optional)
  • Navy blue tracksuit bottoms (version with school
    logo optional)

Wellies

We are lucky to have a large school field and Forest School and we believe in outdoor play and learning all year round, whatever the weather.  Therefore, all children should have a pair of wellies (labelled) to leave in school.

Jewellery/Make Up

We encourage children not to wear jewellery to school. The only acceptable jewellery to be worn is earring studs or plain earrings for children with pierced ears. In order to comply with health and safety regulations these must be removed or covered with plaster during PE activities. Please be aware that the school will be unable to take responsibility for any jewellery lost.

Children should not wear make-up to school including nail varnish.

Hair

We ask that children with longer hairstyles (below shoulder length) should tie their hair back neatly using school coloured hairbands and clips. This keeps their hair out of their eyes when working and playing and prevents the spread of head lice. Thank you.

Labelling Clothes

Please make sure all clothes are labelled as this will help us return any lost clothing as quickly as possible.

Stamptastic provide personalised stamps made in the UK which can be used on fabric, metal, wood and some plastics. An alternative to name labels, they ink lasts up to 50 washes on most fabrics. They do a range of others products too. For every order made, the school will get 30% cash back. Please use the code GL88BW at checkout.  http://www.stamptastic.co.uk/

2nd-hand Uniform

2nd hand uniform is available to purchase from the School Office for a small donation.  We usually have a range of school jumpers, grey trousers and skirts, white shirts and school ties.

Morning

Our school day starts as soon as the children walk into school. We have a Breakfast Club for children which starts at 7.45am serving healthy breakfasts. The children line up on the playground where they are greeted with a big smile by their teachers and/or their class teaching assistant, who lead them into school. Our morning session begins at 8.45am in EYFS and KS1 and at 8:50 am in KS2 with a 20 minute playtime in the middle.

Lunchtimes

We have a brand new kitchen serving hot, healthy and nutritious meals. Lunches are served in the school hall from 12.15 for EYFS and KS1 and from 12:30 for KS2. Children are welcome to bring a packed lunch if you would prefer.

Lunchtimes and playtimes are happy at St Mary's. Children are extremely well supported in their play by our staff team. Children can play on our extensive field, (weather permitting) or on our playgrounds and trim trails. Pascall stmarys 9291wThe infant children have a separate playground from the junior children and there are two junior playgrounds; one for Year 5 and 6 and one for Year 3 and 4. Teachers, teaching assistants and play leaders are on hand to play with the children and we have a team of trained and friendly lunchtime supervisors who support the children alongside our inclusion staff.

Afternoons

Our afternoon session starts at 1.15pm in EYFS and KS1 and at 1:30pm for KS2. School ends at 3.15pm for the EYFS and KS1 and 3.20pm for KS2. Parents collect their children from the school playground. Many children choose to stay on to do an after school club. St Mary's has a variety of clubs for children to choose from, ranging from art clubs to sports. For working parents there is also an After School Club available which runs from 3.15pm until 5:30pm.

Length of School Week

The length of the school week for our EYFS and KS1 children is currently 31 hours and 40 minutes.

The length of the school week for our KS2 children is 32 hours and 5 minutes.

The Government White Paper 2022 advises that all maintained schools should provide 32.5 hours a week for all children.  We are currently reviewing this and further information will follow.

At St Mary's we recognise that choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make. Children in our care thrive; developing curiosity about their world, a caring attitude to each other and the confidence and courage to feel that they can have a go.

Waiting Lists
