Walking with Dinosaurs

TJ for website

On Thursday 11 February, year 5/6 went to Oxford University Museum of Natural History. Everyone had fun and there was lots to learn and loads of interesting artefacts.

During our time we went to the Pitt Rivers Museum as well. In the Pitt Rivers Museum all the artefacts were man made, whereas in the Natural History Museum all the artefacts were natural.

In the Pitt Rivers Museum, there were ancient masks and clothing as well as lots of different weaponry such as swords, throwing knives, daggers, shotguns, assault rifles as well as old muskets and shields. There was also a huge totem pole which was shaped to look like people and animals such as: bears, humans, fish, owls, ravens, cats, wolfs and frogs.

In the History Museum of Natural History, there were skeletons of dinosaurs and a wide range of different animals and there were lots of different fossils, some as big as tractor wheels! We also learnt about Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. There was also a huge dinosaur and I stuck my head in its mouth. Don’t worry it wasn’t living! We all enjoyed our time in Oxford and we would recommend going back.
